JOHNSTOWN - City Police Chief Mark Gifford sent out a public service announcement to remind people to secure their homes and vehicles when they are unoccupied.
In the announcement, Gifford said that investigations of home burglaries and vehicle larcenies often show that the dwelling, building or vehicle is left unlocked. The investigations also show car owners commonly leave valuables in sight while leaving their vehicle unattended.
Sgt. Christopher Stevens said this morning that the announcement isn't the result of a crime spree. Its purpose is to serve as a reminder for people to remove their valuables from their vehicles and lock their doors, he said.
