Race course not considerate

September 16, 2012
The Leader Herald

I am a person living with Parkinson's disease. I get around slowly with the help of my walker. For longer treks, I need a wheelchair.

On?Labor Day, I decided it would nice to go to the Saratoga Race Course for breakfast. It was the last day of the season and a very nice morning. My husband and I arrived at the gate at 7 a.m.

We learned the track was not handicapped-friendly. They do have reserved parking near the gate, but the distance to the breakfast area is considerable. Due to the Parkinson's disease, my feet feel like they weigh 100 lbs.

It would have been helpful if my husband could have driven to the restaurant entrance, dropped me off and then parked.

I was really tired and disappointed that such an important attraction was so mindless. I had no idea I should have brought my wheelchair.
