What is wrong with this picture? I own property in three upstate New York counties. In Fulton County, my property's assessment is the lowest by almost $50,000 and the equalization rate is 84 percent (also the lowest). However, my taxes combined are just shy of $1,000 higher than the next closest one.
My property is assessed at $82,000 in Fulton County, while in Cayuga County, my property is assessed for $130,000 with a 100 percent equalization rate, and the taxes are $978 cheaper than in Fulton County.
I see why there are no jobs, more homes on the market, no business and one of the highest welfare lines in the state. Fulton County has nothing to offer but higher benefits to those who refuse to work.
Drug testing for welfare recipients should start in Fulton County. Just drive down Main Street in Gloversville any time of day or night and see how many people are sitting on their porch waiting for the mailman. It's sad.
