Dorothy M. Shaw, age 89, of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on July 5, 1923, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Earl VanAernam Sr. and Gladys Getman VanAernam. Dorothy attended Johnstown schools and worked for many years in Knitting Mills such as Diana Knit and Johnstown Knit. She enjoyed playing bingo, dining out, gambling and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Shaw was also a member of the Improved Order of Red Men Degree of Pocahontas.
On December 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Raymond M. Shaw until his passing on December 4, 1990.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Roseann Doyle and her companion, Erwin "Butch" Swart of Johnstown; one brother, Earl VanAernam Jr. of Randall; two grandchildren, Tammy Fogg of Johnstown and David Kilmartin of Florida; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition her parents and husband, she was predeceased by five brothers, Harry VanAernam, Robert VanAernam, Frank VanAernam, Edward VanAernam and Clarence VanAernam; two sisters, Jesse Dence and Florence Warner; and one granddaughter, Tina Fogg Wood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. The Dr. Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Friends and family may call today, September 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
