JOHNSTOWN - A city resident was arrested by police Tuesday after officers responded to an animal abuse complaint at 26 Hoosac St.

Joseph T. Donofrio, 18, was charged with an agriculture and markets law violation - more specifically "Buster's Law" - after he allegedly strangled a cat, police said.

Buster's Law makes aggravated cruelty to animals a felony. The aggravated cruelty in the law is explained as being injuring the animal to cause extreme pain or is carried out in an especially sadistic manner.

Donofrio was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
