JOHNSTOWN - Mayfield Elementary School Assistant Principal Abbey North has been appointed the new principal of Glebe Street Elementary School, starting Sept. 24.

The Greater Johnstown School District Board made the probationary appointment of North to the $72,000-per-year position at a special meeting Tuesday at Johnstown High School.

"I'd like to welcome Abbey to the Johnstown community," district Superintendent Robert DeLilli said.

North replaces former Glebe Street Elementary School Principal Daniel Carroll, who left to take a principal's job with the Central Square School District in Oswego County.

Her probationary appointment runs from Sept. 24, 2012, to Sept. 23, 2015.

Following the meeting, North said she will enjoy a more intimate school population, going from 600 elementary students at Mayfield to about 300 at Glebe.

"I felt this was the right time to take a step forward," North said. "I like the small atmosphere."

In other personnel matters, the board made a probationary appointment of Caitlin Cleary as a school psychologist, effective Sept. 1, 2012, through Aug. 31, 2015. She will be paid $42,413 annually.

The board also accepted the resignation of John Roth as a boys' soccer assistant coach for the 2012-13 school year.

Katrina Canallatos also was appointed as an extended leave substitute special education teacher at a $40,277 prorated salary, from Sept. 14 to Nov. 9.
