I spent 11 years in the U.S. Navy, which I do not regret one moment. When I got out, I moved back to Gloversville and built a life for myself and my family.
I have gone through hard times before I joined the military, while I was in, and when I got out.
When I moved back to New York from California, one of the first things I did was to join the VFW and American Legion.
I have put myself through college and earned a degree while working a very arduous job, much like the military.
At the same time, I have spent what little extra time I have working hard and supporting my military organizations.
I find it amazing that when there is some type of crisis, along with news media coverage, there is all the support that you could ask for.
Lately, though, it's really sad. We are lucky if we get seven or eight members at our monthly meetings and that's unacceptable.
You veterans out there sacrificed your time, and much more in the defense of our country. Please give that same sacrifice to our organizations that we have earned the right and privilege to belong to.
