50-55 Plus Club announces officers

GLOVERSVILLE - The following information is for the Gloversville 50-55 Plus Club, who meet at the Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville and Fulton County, 53 Church St.

On Aug. 26, a surprise party took place for Dorotha Dye for her 103rd birthday, at the Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, with 29 in attendance including her two sons, Alan and Herbert, 12 club members and her friends.

Dye is one of the oldest of the senior club members and is an honorary lifetime member. She is retired and was a grade school teacher at McKinley and McNab schools. The four club members who were taught by Dye are as follows: John Nicosia, president of the club; his two sisters, Frances Carr and Josephine Pecorino; and Frank Perrella.

Price Chopper donated the cake for the club, and her sons also brought a cake. The club gave her a card signed by the members and a flowered plant.

After the party, Dye played a song on the piano for the guests.

September is food pantry month. Members should bring can goods to the senior center.

On Monday the center will be closed for Labor Day.

On Sept. 10, the meeting will be at 1 p.m. A cake will be served to honor the birthdays of the members for the month.

On Sept. 17, and 24, the meeting will be at 1 p.m. followed by refreshments, cards and bingo.

On Oct. 1, the potluck luncheon will be held at noon. Members must bring a plate setting and dish to pass. The event is a celebration of the new officers.

The new officers for 2012-2013 are as follows: John Nicosia, president; Carol Coon, first vice president; Betty Fancher, second vice president; Patricia Boles, treasurer; Beverly DeChiro, assistant treasurer; Sandy Lauritano, recording secretary; Ellen Dorman, assistant recording secretary; Mary Smith, corresponding secretary; Ginny McCoy, assistant corresponding secretary; Carol Visconti, membership; Mary Smith, assistant membership; Virginia Mohrman, historian; Angie Ruggeri, chaplain; and Virginia Mohrman, assistant chaplain.

The 50-55 Plus is a social club that offers opportunities to its members to promote friendship and partake in recreational cultural and educational activities.

New members are always welcome. The meetings are held each Monday except when it is a holiday and the center is closed.
