Man hit 90 mph on motorcycle: police

August 25, 2012
The Leader Herald

AMSTERDAM-A man was charged with reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, operating with no insurance and 15 other traffic violations by city police Wednesday.

Police said Daniel Muniz, 30, of Florida Avenue, drove his motorcycle through a stop sign on McDonnell Street and then performed a "wheelie" for around 200 feet down Guy Park Avenue. Police said officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, but Muniz accelerated and tried to evade the police.

After a high-speed chase, which reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, down Northhampton Road and Market Street, police said, the bike mounted the curb on Van Dyke Avenue. When Muniz attempted to re-enter the road way, police said, he lost control and hit a police car.

Muniz was arrested and released on $500 bail to appear in court at a later date.

Police said no injuries were reported and both vehicles in the crash suffered only minor damage.
