Duane E. Scribner, age 90, of Malta, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady after a long illness. Born in Gloversville, N.Y. on August 9, 1922, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Bessie (nee: Wilbur) Scribner. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1940 and later from Albany Business College. During WW II, Mr. Scribner served with the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Philippines and Guam.
For 17 years, he was employed as the office manager of J.B. Hauf Furniture Store, Albany followed by a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Scribner was a lifelong bowling enthusiast and proud fan of the New York Mets.
Mr. Scribner was predeceased by his wife, the former Ruth Wilmot, whom he married in 1947. He also was predeceased by his older brother, Henry Scribner.
Survivors include: his son, D. Robert Scribner and wife, Cynthia of Charlton, N.Y.; sister, Mrs. Arlene (Scribner) Horton of Gloversville, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Beverly (Ellithorp) Scribner of Gloversville; grandchildren, Mrs. Nikki (Scribner) Hussey and husband, Richard of Naperville, Ill. and Jason Scribner of Winterhaven, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Gavin Hussey; family friend, Mrs. Doris Horton of Gloversville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews throughout the U.S.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 25, at 1:30 p.m. at Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304. A calling hour will precede the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Inurnment will be private and take place at a later date.
