Reading program works

August 23, 2012
The Leader Herald

The Johnstown Public Library's 2012 Summer Reading Program was a resounding success, with 268 children enthusiastically registering to "Dream Big READ!" at our library. Readers read for a grand total of 2,997 hours throughout the course of our six-week program, with more than 100 participants and their families celebrating this fantastic achievement with books, cake and ice cream at the final celebration Aug. 9. Each of our more than 20 workshops was filled to capacity, with participants learning about bats and birds of prey, and making soap, felt monsters and a "ghoulishly" good lunch.

Many thanks to Mrs. Valerie Rogers and Mrs. Susan Groesbeck for creating and running another stellar summer of fun at the library, Larissa Groesbeck, Jordan Therrien, and Megan Therrien for their creativity and enthusiasm, the entire library staff for its dedication to the program and the Friends of the Johnstown Public Library for supporting summer reading this year and in the past.

Kudos to all of our readers, and many thanks for "dreaming big" at the library this summer.

ERICA WING

Johnstown Library Director
