Angus Christopher Russell Jr.

Mr. Angus Christopher Russell Jr., 89, of Johnstown, passed away August 17, 2012, following a brief illness. He was born November 27, 1922, in Cortland, N.Y., son of the late Angus Christopher Russell Sr. and Beulah Mary Bush Russell. Mr. Russell was educated in Cortland schools and engaged in farming in his early years. In the 1940s, he relocated to Fulton County, following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he went to work for General Electric Co. in Schenectady as a crane operator. Following his retirement in 1984, Mr. Russell began his nearly twenty year career at Price Chopper in Johnstown. He was primarily associated with the bottle return system and grocery bagging.

A standard feature at the store, he always loved his job and the many friendships he made. However, his family was first and foremost in his life, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Doris Santella (Richard) of North Port Fla., Donna Ostrander and Phyllis Russell (Shorty) of Johnstown. He is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Dorward of DeRuyter, N.Y. and Beverly Jackson (Ernie) of Syracuse; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mr. Russell was predeceased by his wife, Elma Orcutt Russell; a son, Richard A. Russell; three brothers; and a sister.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of his family.

Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
