Thank you to city of Johnstown Water Department and Department of Public Works.
Thank you for your quick response to my concern about the water settled in the street in front of my house Aug. 5. It was not long after placing my call that your fine team of men from the city water department assembled to find the underlying cause of the problem.
We are very fortunate in Johnstown to have such a dedicated group of employees appear for work on very short notice at 6 p.m. on a Sunday evening, one of the hottest evenings of the year, after being taken away from their families, friends or just enjoying down time before the start of another work week. Not a grumble was heard and not a question went unanswered as they worked their way to the broken water pipe. It was a hot, dirty job that was executed with precision and professionalism. These guys know their business.
It was after midnight when the new pipe was in place, the hole re-filled and blocked off until morning. Yes, by 7 a.m. Monday morning they went back to finish the black top and got the street re-opened.
I think that as residents we may not give enough appreciation to the fine employees that work tirelessly, often at odd hours and in adverse conditions, to keep our city safe and operating smoothly.
The next time you come upon a work zone of our city's finest, give them a wave or a thumbs up as you slowly pass by - let's keep them safe.
Thank you gentlemen for your commitment to our community.
