Recycling center opens in Meco

August 19, 2012
By JOHN BORGOLINI , The Leader Herald

MECO - Joe Semione's Perfection Cleaning Service at 538 County Road 122 has opened a bottle and can redemption center at the building.

Semione received a permit from the town of Johnstown on Tuesday.

The next morning, he and one of his workers put signs up and opened the business.

The business is the fourth of its kind in Fulton County, not counting the local supermarkets that also redeem returnables.

"It's a good, convenient way for people to dispose of their recyclables or get back their deposits that we all pay our 5 cents for," Semione said. "And I think it's going to be good for this area."

Ryan Fagan, town code enforcement officer, said the business will be good for the town.

"Instead of going into the larger grocery stores to take their bottle returns, [Meco residents] can do it right in the neighborhood," Fagan said.

Semione said his business could help with fundraisers.

"Once we get the word out there, we're going to work with any organization that wants to have a bottle drive or a fundraiser," he said. "We definitely would entertain that. That's how we would get a large amount of bottles right off the get-go. It should work out nice."
