AMSTERDAM - The Amsterdam Sea Rams youth swim team will host its first tryout session for new swim team members.

The tryouts are open to children age 6 to 18 who can swim a strong 25-yard freestyle.

The tryouts will take place Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Amsterdam City Pool, which is located at Veteran's Field on Locust Avenue.

Particpants should bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles and copy of their birth certificate.

Another tryout session will take place in September at the Lynch Literacy Academy pool.

The Amsterdam Sea Rams youth swim team goal is to develop competitive swimmers ages 6 to 18 both as athletes and well rounded young men and women.

The team strives to provide a positive atmosphere in which to learn and develop the skills of competitive swimming and foster good sportsmanship among its members, a news release said.

The Amsterdam Sea Rams youth swim team is a swim club with applicable fees and is not a learn to swim program.
