When reviewing my cell phone bill, I was both surprised and disgusted to see the addition of a city school district surcharge.
How greedy is our local school district? A cell phone surcharge, really?
It's bad enough we property owners have to pay school taxes that increase every year. Now, we property owners have to pay more school taxes every month as part of our cell phone bill.
If this is a way to take some of the tax burden off of property owners, the amount contributed through our cell phone bill should be subtracted from our yearly property tax bill. We taxpayers are also more than likely paying this surcharge for those on public assistance who get free cell phones.
I'm not against public education, I just think that property owners are already taxed enough. I guess this is the school district's way of getting around the state's property tax cap.
