JOHNSTOWN - Town Councilman Walter Lane's attendance at Thursday night's Town Board meeting may be in question.

Lane was charged Sunday with second-degree harassment after being accused of grabbing and slapping the arm of town Supervisor Nancy MacVean during a Town Board meeting Thursday night at Town Hall.

Lane is scheduled to appear in Town Court on Wednesday, where an order of protection could be issued, said Fulton County Sheriff Thomas Lorey.

Lorey said it won't be known until after the court appearance whether an order of protection could prevent Lane from attending Thursday's meeting. Lorey said a couple of different types of orders of protection could be issued by the court.

Lane said today he plans to attend Thursday's meeting. He declined further comment.

Town Councilman Daryl Baldwin said this morning attorneys have advised him not to talk about the issue.

MacVean did not return phone calls seeking comment.
