Shirley J. Quinn, 84, of Perkins Street, and recently a resident of Mount Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on August 26, 1927, a daughter of John and Rubina Sutton Lavender. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School.
Mrs. Quinn was employed at the former Woolworth's Department store in Amsterdam from 1946 to 1952. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was very active in the church choir. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Society, the Mount Carmel Church Bocce League and was a volunteer for Mount Carmel Church bingo.
She married John F. Quinn on February 3, 1951. He passed away on December 31, 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Pierce (Richard) of Johnstown, N.Y. and Mary Darlene Smith (Alfred) of Mayfield; one sister, Virginia Hayes of Amsterdam, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Sullivan (Patrick) of Amsterdam, Albert Hunt of Gloversville, N.Y., Leroy Smith (Stacey) of Pattersonville, N.Y., Crystal Rickard (Scott) of Amsterdam, N.Y., Shannon Smith of Mayfield and Gloria Hubbard (Warren) of Rensselaer, N.Y.; eleven great-grandchildren, Robert, Katelyn, John, Alexis, Kayla, Vicki, Emmy, Scott, Roseanna, Mary Ann and Carol Ann; two step-grandchildren, Jeanette Oare (Vincent), and Richard Pierce Jr. (Melissa); eight step-great-grandchildren, Nikki, Tori, Emily, Austin, Alison, Brittany, Gavin and Macy. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
