AMSTERDAM - State police at Fonda charged a 17-year-old for leaving a puppy in her car with the windows rolled up Sunday.
Malisa M. Dolly of Mayfield was charged with torturing, injuring or not feeding an animal.
Police said a passerby called with a report of the puppy in a car at the Target store parking lot.
A trooper found Dolly inside Target, police said. The police report notes Dolly said she didn't realize she had been in the store for 50 minutes while the 6-week-old puppy was in the car.
The puppy did not have any water to drink, police said.
Dolly was released with a ticket to appear in Town Court. The puppy was released to her custody.
