TICONDEROGA (AP) - A Broadalbin resident is recovering after being rescued from an overturned rig partially submerged in a North Country lake.
Officials say 40-year-old Michael J. Rodriguez apparently lost control of a tractor-trailer hauling paper at about 1 a.m. Tuesday on a sharp curve in Ticonderoga, near the Vermont border. The truck flipped over into Eagle Lake, leaving Rodriguez trapped in a cab filled with eight feet of water.
Rescuers told the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that only Rodriguez's chin and nose were above water.
Firefighters working in the dark cut a hole in the truck's door, removed the passenger-side seat and pulled the driver out. Rodriguez had been able to take his seat belt off.
The Broadalbin resident was hospitalized with leg injuries and fluid in the lungs.
