FULTONVILLE - State police at Fonda responded to a report of two men fighting July 4 outside of 35 Franklin St. over comments posted on Facebook and discovered one of them was wanted on a warrant in Charlottesville, Va., for violation of probation.
James C. Simmons, 19, had been staying with his brother Daniel E. Young, 36, for a couple of weeks before the incident. The two argued about the comments, and Simmons grabbed a broomstick and broke a small window on the front door, troopers said. Simmons also repeatedly hit Young's car with the broomstick, troopers said.
Young called 911 to request that Simmons be removed from his property, which is when police discovered Simmons was wanted by the Charlottesville Police Department.
Police said Simmons was held in Montgomery County Jail while he waited for authorities to send him to Charlottesville.
