Mother Nature wins at Glen Ridge

FULTONVILLE - The Ridge was forced to cancel its scheduled program for Sunday.

With rain falling and the forecast calling for severe weather, the decision was made to cancel the night's racing activities.

With four races remaining, Bobby Varin currently holds the point lead in the dirt modified division. Varin leads Fort Plain's Jeremy Wilder by 12 points with four races remaining. Craig Hanson sits in the third position with Bobby Vedder and JaMike Sowle completing the top five. Varin and Matt Sheppard lead the way with four feature wins. Other feature winners this season are Wilder with three and Hanson and Stewart Friesen each with one. Sheppard leads all with 109 laps led.

Mayfield's Chad Edwards is in command of the sportsman division point standings. Edwards is the only driver to have finished in the top five in all 12 division feature events this season. Rocky Warner sits a distant second, 30 points behind Edwards. Chris Schaffer sits in the third position with Fred Muhlberger and Greg Pessolano completing the top five. Warner leads all drivers with four feature wins, Edwards has three feature wins while Greg Pessolano and Harry Shaffer each have two feature wins. Schaffer has visited victory lane once. Warner has led the most laps.

Dave Grace leads the rookie sportsman point standings. He has a 14-point lead over Mike Jackson. Jackson leads the way with five feature wins while Grace has two feature wins.

In the full fender classes, Rob VanAernam holds a 10-point lead in the street stock division over Jason Samrov. Chuck McSpirit sits in the third position. Chuck Wainwright, Jr. has a commanding 144-point lead over Keith Tesiero Sr. in the cruiser division.

The remainder of the 2012 season will see four more events on the tentative schedule. The Ridge will be dark this Sunday in preparation for the track's first dirt modified touring season event in the history of the track to be held Aug. 14. The Race of Champions Dirt Modified Series will come to town, competing in a 60-lap North Region event. The sportsman, rookie sportsman and cruiser divisions will also be on the card.

The final Sunday show of the season will take place on Aug. 19. A regular show for all divisions will be on the card. From there the final two events of the season will be on Saturday nights. On Aug. 25, a regular show will be hitting the track. The season will come to a close on Saturday, Sept. 1 with the final points event. Also joining the card will be the CRSA RaceSaver 305 Sprint Car Series.

When the final checkered flag waves on Labor Day weekend, it will not only end the 2012 racing season it will also end the Mike Romano and Jake Spraker era at the tack. This will be the final season for the promotional team of Romano and Spraker at The Ridge. The veteran duo took over the track early in the 2007 racing season and have promoted the quarter-mile oval since.
