Ruth C. Waddle, 64, of Caroga Lake N.Y. is finally at peace after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. She passed away on Thursday August 2, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born February 27, 1948 in Gloversville, daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth Perham Van Vranken. Ruth graduated from Gloversville High School and attended BOCES to earn her LPN nursing license. She was employed at Nathan Littauer Hospital almost 40 years where she always treated her patients and fellow staff members with care and respect as if they were her own family. She had a kind word for each. The Nathan Littauer Hospital Extended Care & Nursing Home has a lounge room dedicated to her.
Ruth is survived by and will be missed profoundly by, her husband of 36 years, Stan Waddle, daughters; Brenda Rava (Shawn Bowerman) of Canajoharie, Melissa Rava (Scott Egan) of Johnstown, Jessica Rava (Dena Pastore) of Amsterdam, Megan Kucel (David) of Gloversville and her son, Jason Waddle (Aime), of Caroga Lake. Ruth is also survived by eleven grandchildren; Stephanie Strouse, Brandon Strouse, Bryan Strouse, Donald Slater, Dylan Slater, Brianna Slater, Andrea Bowerman, Aiden Bowerman, Maggiejean Waddle, Hailee Waddle and pre-deceased by Kristofer Strouse. Additional survivors include her great grandchildren: Alyssa Smith, Jalyn Smith, Kaleb Smith, Brennan Strouse, Jacob Strouse and Cash Daniel Slater. Ruth also leaves eight siblings; brothers John Van Vranken (Peggy), Robert Van Vranken and James Allen Van Vranken (Joyce) of Gloversville, sisters Patricia White of Caroga Lake, Catherine Spiry (Lynn) of South Dakota, Charlotte Wilkes (John) of Caroga Lake, Susan Van Vranken of Gloversville, sister-in-law Beverly Van Vranken, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her brother Sanford Van Vranken and brother-in-law Robert White.
Ruth was a wonderful wife and mother, there are no words to express the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were all so important to her.
Ruth loved her Heavy Metal bands, Metallica, AC/DC, Kiss, Areosmith and others, and enjoyed playing them real loud. She loved her old movies, and knew all the actors and actresses from days gone by. In recent years, she enjoyed the special times spent with her sisters Patricia and Charlotte.
The family wishes to thank the fifth floor D&M wings neurological nursing staff and doctors at Albany Medical Center for the care and respect they had for Ruth while caring for her there. Also, St. Mary's Hospital Amsterdam, acute and River Ridge semi-acute, Physical Rehab doctors and staff for helping Ruth to try to recover from her surgeries, and Mountain Valley Hospice staff for helping her family to care for her at home where she wanted to be. Additional thanks to the Reverend Dr. R. W. Williams and close friend, Cindy Van Allen, who together provided much needed spiritual support for all of us, and to all extended family and friends for the many acts of kindness and support during Ruth's illness.
There will be no services. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
