Donald H. Colby, Sr., age 74, of Caroga Lake, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Wells Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 24, 1937 in Gloversville, New York, a son of the late Irvin and Eva Snow Colby.
Mr. Colby honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He was employed as a leather worker at Karg Brothers and then worked for many years as a self employed Landscaper. Mr. Colby was also a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Rosalie St. Andrews Colby, who he married on March 11, 1992; two sons Eric Szabo and Leonard (Sarah) St. Andrews, one daughter Hollis Szabo Hojohn, one brother Irving Colby; four sisters Arlene Robinson, Ethel (Art) Sanborne, Marguerite (Rocco) Risucci and Shirley Cwiakala; six grandchildren Kendra St. Andrews, Nolan Hojohn, Blake Szabo, Harris "Duke" St. Andrews, Landen Hojohn and Broderick Dawson, dear friend Jim (Toni) Colson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son Donald H. Colby, Jr. and one brother Clyde Colby.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 North Melcher Street, Johnstown. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
