I am writing this letter in response to the recent letters to the editor and the recent editorial in The Leader-Herald about our prospective purchase of two new police cruisers. The letter writers and editorial staff have gotten ahead of themselves and made assumptions before any official decision as to which vehicle we will choose has been made. At this time no definite decision on make, model, dealer, or anything else has been made. I do admit that we are leaning toward purchasing all-wheel- drive Ford Police Interceptors. However, we are taking the time to research each available vehicle. We will choose the vehicle that we feel will meet the needs of our department both from a financial standpoint and from a logistical standpoint. Being able to get around the city in the wintertime is one important logistic in this decision. We work every day at providing the best quality of service to the citizens and taxpayers of Gloversville, at the best price possible. This vehicle purchase decision will be made with the same ideas in mind.
I would invite any of these letter writers and any other citizens, business owners or taxpayers of the city of Gloversville who have questions or concerns related to this matter to contact me at 773-4504.
