Richard "Rich" Scott Bennett, 41, of Fish House Road Galway, died Friday, July 27, 2012.
He was born in Amsterdam on February 17, 1971, a son of John Bennett and Carol Pepper Barras and attended Galway High School and later earned a GED. Rich was a lifelong area resident.
At the time of his death, he was employed at R. St. Louis General Contracting in Galway.
Rich loved cars, from racing to fixing and everything in between. He was a talented artist, winning awards in grade school and continued to draw for family members throughout his life. He also enjoyed weightlifting with his buddies, reading, gardening, dancing, and spending time with his dog Daisy. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Bennett of Galway and Jessica Lebron of Wyandotte, Okla.; a son, Luke Bennett of Broadalbin; his father, John Bennett of Amsterdam; his stepfather, Reggie Hotte of Galway; his mother, Carol Barras of Galway; two sisters, Kimberly Bierman and Melissa Bennett, both of Galway; a stepbrother, Nick Bennett of Amsterdam; three nieces, Kaylee and Andrea Gwozdz, and Shania Ross; three nephews, Matthew Werner, Jacob St. Louis, and Brandon Ross; his maternal grandfather, Roland Lemery of Broadalbin; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at noon at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown with Minister Les Klein officiating. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 12 at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium and the final burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation at Four Winds of Saratoga, in care of the funeral home.
