Janice M. (Putman) Dunham, age 65, of Northville, went to be with her Lord after a long illness on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, with her daughter at her side.
She was born on June 1, 1947, to Loretta (Waltz) and Calvin Putman, in Gloversville, where she grew up and attended local schools. She worked at Coleco in Mayfield and Patch Road until it closed down. At 43, she went back to school earning an associate's degree in Medical Billing and being inducted into the National Honor Society for achieving straight A's throughout her entire college time. Her last job was working at Power Logistics, now Excel until she was unable to work due to her illness. She also delivered The Leader-Herald newspapers in the Edinburg area for a short time.
In 1980, she was lead to Christ, accepted the gift of Salvation and was baptized soon after. She loved telling her friends and family about Christ, and did so, as much as she could, till her illness got worse.
She loved animals, and was known to have had many "lost" or "hurt" animals under her care from a sick turkey, dogs roaming Route 30, to abandoned baby raccoons. She loved to dance, laugh and sing. She was always lively and fun to be around. She loved to be able to go to California to visit her sister Sharon, niece Marissa and nephew Doran Cameron. She loved playing cards, dominoes and other games with friends. She especially loved traveling and fishing with her dear friend and companion for many years, Robert Sweet.
One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother. Shelby "Honey Bunny," Noah "Precious Prince," and Joshua "Little Man" were the apple of her eye.
Janice was a hard worker, loyal friend, loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She will be missed greatly but never, ever forgotten by those who loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Barker (John Sartin) of Northville; grandchildren, Shelby Sharp, Noah Sartin, and Joshua Sartin, all of Northville; her mother, Loretta Hindes of California; sisters, Kathy (John) Andrest of California, Sharon Warner of California, Sheree St. Louis (Chuck) of Mayfield and Lisa Murray (Millard) of Johnstown; several nieces and nephews, including the newest one, Dexter Kyriaco, son of niece Marissa (Jon) Kyriaco of California, whom she loved seeing pictures of until her illness worsened.
She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Putman; and her stepfather, Howard Hindes.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Northville on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard Klueg officiating. There will be no graveside service at this time. There will be a luncheon following the service downstairs in the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Service. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
