Constance A. "Connie" Avery, 55, of Meco, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on February 7, 1957, in Gloversville, a daughter of Robert and Audrey McCarthy Avery. Connie graduated from Gloversville High School and received her bachelor's degree from Empire State College. She worked for many years at the Fulton County Department of Social Services in the Central Assessment Program. Connie was promoted to Long Term Care Coordinator in her last two years before her retirement this past February. Ms. Avery was of the Catholic faith, a member of the Women's Republican Club of Fulton County and an avid Yankees fan.
She is survived by two brothers, John Avery and Gary Avery; one sister, Gail (Robert) Holmes of Pennsylvania; one uncle, Jack (Jacqueline) McCarthy; stepmother, Alma Avery; four stepsiblings, Darla, John, Jimmy and David Oathout; two sisters-in-law, Karen Avery and Ann Avery Jones; special friend, Sharon Heroth and her children, Matthew (Chris Steenburg) Heroth, Sue (Greg Pessolano) Heroth, Jason (Shelby) Heroth; and grandchildren, Courtney, M.J., Makayla, Layne and Isaac; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two brothers, Lyman Avery and Bart Avery, predeceased Connie in addition to her parents.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, August 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. A Memorial Service will be conducted immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 4 p.m., with Rev. Sandra Geer officiating.
