Hilda Brower VanNostrand, 85, of Mayfield and the Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the facility with her loving granddaughter holding her hand.
She was born September 26, 1926, in Mayfield, N.Y., the daughter of the late Jacob Brower and Lydia VanSlyke Brower. She was a graduate of Mayfield Central School, class of 1944.
Hilda was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put her family first and foremost, as they did her. Everyone who knew her loved her.
She worked at various glove shops throughout the years, then at Robison & Smith for 28 years. After retiring from there, she went on to be a greeter at Wal-Mart for several years.
Survivors include her son, Raymond (Denise) VanNostrand, and her daughter, Audrey Coleman, both of Mayfield; six grandchildren, Lisa, Beth, Kristi, Kara, Jake and Dana; as well as eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth A. Tennant in 1990; and her loving husband of 62 years, Ivan C. VanNostrand, in 2008.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at noon at the Broadalbin Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Christie Road Rural Cemetery at a later date. Following the memorial service at the church, family and friends are invited to have desserts and coffee at Raymond's house, 125 Town Road, Mayfield.
