JOHNSTOWN - The Walmart Corp.'s Property Tax Dept. on July 3 filed a civil lawsuit in state Supreme Court against the city of Johnstown to reduce the assessment on its distribution center from $35.7 million to about $15.7 million.
The retailer filed suit against the city, its assessor and its Board of Assessment Review regarding the current assessment for the 868,000-square-foot Walmart Regional Distribution Center on Enterprise Road. Walmart contends the building is assessed at a higher percentage of value than other entities on the city's assessment roll.
In papers filed Tuesday in Supreme Court, it was noted Walmart's amended notice of petition filed will be reviewed by the court at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 13. The purpose of the proceeding is so Walmart's assessment may be reviewed and "corrected, modified or vacated," court papers state.
