Accessing planned fields safely a concern

July 13, 2012
The Leader Herald

I am writing to express a concern of mine and of several residents of the village of Broadalbin, whom I have spoken to.

First, I want to preface my remarks by saying I support the Broadalbin Youth Commission 500 percent. They are a wonderful organization that has done so much for the youth of our community. My own children have participated in their programming and enjoyed every minute. I have worked for the program when I was beginning my career working with kids.

My concern is this: How are kids going to access the proposed new site for playing fields across Route 29?

I know many parents drive their children, but kids being kids, this may not always happen. I am so afraid for the safety of our children because of the location of this site. Route 29 is a treacherous highway.

The site is a beautiful field and so much work has gone into making it ready for use, with grants being applied for, etc.

But please, let me know the safety plan for access. What is the best way for kids to get there? Maybe I have missed something in the original plan, but can someone let me know how this issue will be addressed?

Thank you.
