GLOVERSVILLE - Four traffic changes designed to improve safety and traffic flow at the Walmart Supercenter site at Route 30A and South Kingsboro are under way, state transportation officials said.
The road improvements at site of the future Walmart, now under construction, will be done in four portions, said Ken Andela, regional permit coordinator for the state Department of Transportation, and Jim Piccola, public information officer.
First, crews will widen Route 30A; add a new right-hand turn as motorists drive north on that route; and improve the left-hand turn for Route 30A north- and south-bound lanes with the addition of a three-color signal traffic light.

Second, a roundabout will be added where three roads will meet near the store's entrance, off Route 30A and South Kingsboro Avenue. The roundabout, or rotary, will streamline traffic flow where northbound traffic from Hales Mills Road and southbound motorists from County Route 128 meet the Route 30A and South Kingsboro Avenue traffic.
Third, near the the store's rear entrance, motorists will follow a right-hand turn where the Route 29 west and Hales Mills Road intersect. A traffic light - with red, yellow and green lights - will be erected.
Fourth, on Harrison Street, a flashing beacon light will caution motorists about the upcoming intersection with County Route 128.
The supercenter may open in July 2013, pending weather-related intrusions. Mayor Dayton King told Common Council members on Tuesday he had received an email from the Arkansas-based company stating the approximate store completion.
City officials are awaiting sales tax revenue from the 157,000-square-foot retail store after it opens.
Currently, Walmart has a store in the town of Johnstown at 233 Fifth Ave. Walmart plans to close that store when the supercenter opens.
