After reading about the new police vehicles for the city of Gloversville, I am happy to report that the finances of the city must be better than we are led to believe.
Main Motorcar, locally owned and operated in Fulton County, could have provided Dodge Charger police patrol vehicles to Gloversville for $21,880 per unit, and the cars are in stock right now, right here in our own community.
Paying $2,000 more per car is going to cost you, the taxpayer. As for the excuse that Gloversville needs a different car than the Charger, consider the communities that have purchased Chargers from Main Motorcar. The city of Saratoga, the villages of Liverpool, Catskill and Scotia, and the city of Rotterdam and the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, to name a few, have found the Charger - and doing business with a local dealer in upstate New York - to be in their best interest.
I find it embarrassing that after helping other communities with their police vehicles, we cannot do business in our own community. To quote one of my comic book heroes, "You can't be a hero in your own backyard."
