Big night for area riders at Royal

CAROGA LAKE - A total of 145 riders were in attendance for Wednesday's Monster Energy Supercross event at Royal Mountain Ski Area.

Seven area riders picked up wins Wednesday.

Northville's Daniel Ashcroft, Johnstown's Brandon Handy, Fort Plain's Zackery Kollar, Fort Plain's Spencer Mang, Sprakers' Randy Roennpagel, Salisbury's Brian Harper Jr. and Salisbury's Center's Ryan Zawtocki all posted victories.

Ashcroft won the 122-250cc novice and 122-open novice classes, while Roennpagel won the quad amateur class.

Johnstown's Brandon Handy won the 65cc 7- to 11-year-old class and was second in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class.

Kollar won the 122-250cc amateur class and Mang won the open mini 10- to 16-year-old class.

Kollar also was third in the 122-open amateur, while Mang was was second in the mini 80 12- to 15-year-old

Harper won the quad expert class, while Zawtocki won the mini 80 12- to 15-year-old.

In addition to Ashcroft, two other riders won two classes Wednesday.

Whitesboro's Mitch Daugherty won the 122-250cc expert and 122-open expert classes.

Brodie O'Dell of Pownal, Vt., won the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old and mini 80 9- to 11-year-old classes.

Other winners included Esperance's Matt Dwyer (plus-30 expert), Saratoga Springs' Edward Nadeau (plus-30 amateur), Queensbury's Mason St. John-Lemery (mini quad 51-90cc production), Corinth's Dareck Graham (mini quad 50cc production), Clifton Park's Gavin Betts (50cc junior stock 4-6), Edmeston's Tyrick Wheeler (50cc senior stock 7-8), Cobleskill's Brady Schuyler (quad novice), Copenhagen's Devon Malbout (quad schoolboy 12-15 modified) and Ravena's Kevin Scarcella (122-open amateur).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes.

In the quad amateur class, Nelliston's Nathan Aker was second and Broadalbin's Fred Hansen was fifth.

Fonda's Clayton Blowers was second in the plus-30 expert class, while Mayfield's Jordan Miller was second in the mini quad 50cc production class.

In the quad novice class, Broadalbin's Colby Watras was third, Gloversville's E.J. McAuliffe was fourth, and Galway's Duncan Peters was fifth.

In the mini quad 51-90cc production class, Amsterdam's Geoffrey Hoyt was second and Johnstown's Jason Morrison Jr. was fourth.

Geoffrey Hoyt was third in the quad schoolboy 12- to 15-year-old class, while Katharine Hoyt was third.

Fonda's Tyler Blowers was fifth in the 65cc 7- to 11-year-old class, while Caroga Lake's Jack Mulyca was third in the 122-250cc novice class. Mulyca was third in the 122-open novice class, while Tyler Blowers was second in the mini 80 9- to 11-year-old class.

Gloversville's Adam Handy was second in the 122-250cc expert class. Amsterdam's Kyle Kilburn was fifth in the 122-250cc class. Kilburn was fifth in the 122-open amateur class. Adam Handy also was third in the 122-open expert class.

Salisbury Center's Ryan Zawtocki was third in the open mini 10- to 16-year-old class, while Salisbury's Center's Noah Handy was fifth. Handy also was fourth in the mini 80 12- to 15-year-old class.

Mayfield's B.J. Smith was fifth in the 122-open expert class.

Gloversville's Ronnie Christman was fourth in the 50cc senior stock 7- and 8-year-old class, while Johnstown's Bennett Melita was fifth in the 50cc junior stock 4- to 6-year-old class.

Royal Mountain will host Monster Motocross racing Sunday.

Sign-ups will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. Practice will start at 8:30 a.m. on both days. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

The race is an AMA-sanctioned events and the fifth leg of a six-race series.

The series concludes with an event Aug. 12.
