GLOVERSVILLE - Mackenzie Marotta, a Gloversville native, has been selected by NBC Sports as an intern for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
A junior majoring in television-radio at Ithaca College, Marotta is among 35 students from the college who will be serving an essential behind-the-scenes role for the world's biggest athletic event, taking place July 27 to Aug. 12.
Ithaca is one of only a handful of colleges and universities nationwide with which NBC partners to recruit interns for its Olympics coverage. A total of 33 of the interns are from the Roy H. Park School of Communications, with one each coming from the School of Music and School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
Half of the students, including Marotta, will be based at NBC's 30 Rock headquarters in New York City, while the rest will travel to London for their intern assignments.
Ithaca College students have previously interned at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy; 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China; and 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
