Local businesses supporting firefighters

July 9, 2012
The Leader Herald

The office of the fire coordinator wishes to publicly convey our sincere thanks to several local businesses that have demonstrated their support for training programs for firefighters in Montgomery County. The firefighters of Montgomery County, most of whom are volunteers, train constantly to learn new techniques and ways to do their jobs in a safe and professional manner. For much of our training support, we turn to local businesses to provide vehicles to provide realistic training for our firefighters.

A class was recently held in Montgomery County to provide instruction for new recruit firefighters from across the county. A portion of the "Firefighter 1" curriculum familiarized them with vehicle fires and provided a realistic, hands-on, opportunity to experience vehicle fires. Vehicles donated by Harry's Auto from Johnstown and Becker's Auto Salvage, located in Palatine Bridge, were critical for these sessions.

Another recent class offered firefighters from both Montgomery and Fulton counties the opportunity to learn how to safely conduct their activities when operating around electrically powered vehicles, as they are now more prevalent and present unique considerations and safety concerns. Those students attending these sessions were able to observe the construction and safety features of electrically powered vehicles loaned and displayed by Eagle Chevrolet and Brown's Ford, both from Johnstown.

Support of these training programs by businesses such as these are critical to our programs. We want to publicly express their efforts in support of our fire training are greatly appreciated.
