Fort Plain hosts athletic awards ceremony

FORT PLAIN - Zach Strobel earned four awards at the 2012 Fort Plain Central School spring sports reception and annual varsity awards night June 8.

Strobel earned the Board of Education Senior Sportsmanship Award, Rich Bower Memorial Track and Cross-Country Award, Robert Davis Cross-Country Award and Second Effort Award (golf).

Nicole Nestler claimed the Army Reserve Scholar-Athlete Award, Board of Education Senior Sportsmanship Award, Carol Christie Mancini Memorial Cheerleading Award and the William Cutspec Memorial Scholarship.

Avery Johnson also earned the William Cutspec Memorial Scholarship, along with the Second Effort Award (boys cross country) and the Rich Bower Memorial Track and Cross-Country Award.

Sam Hoffman won the Army Reserve Scholar-Athlete Award, Noah Frederick Senior Track Award and Rich Bower Memorial Track and Cross-Country Award.

Chris Hanifin earned the Board of Education Outstanding Underclassman Award and Rich Bower Memorial Baseball Award.

Allehah VanLoan claimed the Most Improved Athlete Award and Second Effort awards for softball and girls soccer.

Abby Boyer won the Board of Education Outstanding Underclassman Award and Second Effort Award (girls cross country), while Harold Dettmer III earned the Harvey L. Smith Memorial Baseball Award (batting average) and William Doerrer & Son Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for boys.

Samantha Potter won the William Doerrer & Son Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for girls.

Luke DeBoer earned the Rich Bower Memorial Track and Cross-Country Award and Roland Littrell Jr. Memorial Award, while Zach Sweet won the Louis Phillips Heart of a Champion Award and Most Improved Athlete Award.

Tim Wolfe won the Super Sub Award for boys soccer and boys basketball.

Also winning Super Sub awards were Taylor Andrews (softball), Evan Grassel (baseball), Kendra Trembley (girls soccer) and Lacey Brock (girls basketball).

Additional Second Effort awards went to Alexis Haponski (girls track and field), Soren Hudyncia (boys track and field), Gabby Brownell (volleyball), Trenton Douglas (baseball, boys soccer), Gene Ryan (wrestling), Jamie Fredericks (swimming), Gabby Moshshinskie (girls basketball), Marcus Failing (boys basketball), LaSonya Hecht (cheerleading) and Ray Ponte Jr. (bowling).
