AMSTERDAM-A city man was charged by city police Wednesday for allegedly stealing items from cars.
Police charged Richard Bedell, 23, of 28 Lincoln Ave., with resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal mischief at 1:14 a.m.
He was arraigned and sent to the Montgomery County Jail.
Residents of Brookside Avenue reported someone had broken into several cars Tuesday night.
Officers patrolled the area and saw Bedell on lower Brookside Avenue, police said.
Officers said when Bedell saw them, he ran. After a short pursuit on foot, Bedell struggled was placed under arrest.
Bedell was in possession of a bag full of stolen property, officers said, including a stolen car stereo. The owner of the stereo was found.
One woman said she witnessed Bedell breaking into the window of her car, police said.
Residents are asked to contact city police if they believe they are missing property. Police also reminded people to lock their car doors.
