JOHNSTOWN - The Common Council recently amended the city code to place no-parking signs on North East Avenue.
City Police Chief Mark Gifford first brought the matter of that avenue to the council's attention in April.
The avenue is located between Routes 29 and 67. Gifford said North East Avenue has, in effect, become one lane for traffic over the years.
He also said there is a hill in the midst of the avenue that creates a "blind spot" for motorists.
The council voted to amend the city code so there is no parking on North East Avenue - from the northernmost property line at Hillside Apartments on Briggs Street Extension to the southernmost property line at 32 North East Ave.
The property lines are to extend across the avenue so parking is prohibited on both sides of the street.
Mayor Sarah Slingerland stated "very different traffic patterns" have occurred in the city the last few years.
"We're monitoring that," she said. "We appreciate community input. We're trying to make some adjustments with signage."
In other action by the council:
Four members of the Johnstown Library Board of Trustees were reappointed for three-year terms expiring June 30. They are: Thomas Walsh, of 303 S. Melcher St.; Susan Palmer Johnson, of 7 Jane Drive; Shannon Kline, of 18 W. Main St.; and Amy Praught, of 4 Cady St.
"Our special thanks to all of those people who serve on the Johnstown library board," Slingerland said.
The council accepted the highest bid of $257 from Terry Ackerknecht, who is purchasing a city-owned 1988 Chevy pickup truck. The council also rejected two bids for sale of a lot of four city-owned dump- box tail gates, of which City Engineer Chandra Cotter will retain possession.
The city offered for future private sale the following properties: a one-family home at 10 Prospect Ave., and five pieces of vacant land on Pleasant Avenue, Charles Street, John Street and West State Street.
Janice Vertucci, of 111 S. William St., was appointed commissioner of deeds for a term expiring Jan. 14.
