GLOVERSVILLE - New school district Superintendent Michael B. Vanyo will begin working in the district before his official Sept. 1 start date.
Vanyo will meet with Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education members five times before Aug. 30 to discuss priorities and challenges in the district, officials said.
The goal of these meetings is to ensure the new superintendent is developing solutions to problems in the school system, officials said.
The school board will set goals, frame problems to be resolved and combine its information with Vanyo's before the start of the 2012-13 school year, school officials said.
"I would like someone to come in who has some specific thoughts and plans as to what will help us the most," board member Jean LaPorta said.
Interim Superintendent Clifford Moses said it would be good for Vanyo to meet with residents, community members and business owners and get an idea of what's good in Gloversville schools and what isn't.
The board will refine its goals when Vanyo is working in the district.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 in the district's administrative offices.
