Royal hosts two-day motocross event

CAROGA LAKE - A total of 613 riders took part in the two-day Monster Energy Motocross event at Royal Mountain Ski Area on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, 284 riders were in attendance, while 329 riders were in competition Sunday.

Johnstown's Jason Morrison Jr. won the mini quad 50cc beginner class Saturday. Morrison also won the mini quad 50cc beginner class Sunday.

Fonda's Tyler Blowers won the 65cc 10- and 11-year-old class Saturday and Sunday. Blowers also placed fifth in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class Saturday.

Mayfield's B.J. Smith won the plus-25 expert class Saturday.

Morrison also won the mini quad 50cc beginner class Sunday.

Gansevoort's Peyton Viger was a double winner Saturday, claiming the 50cc oil injected and the 50cc junior stock 4- to 6-year-old classes.

Petersburg's Scott Phelps also won twice Saturday, claiming the plus-40 expert and plus-30 expert titles, while Whitesboro's Mitch Daugherty won the 122-open expert and 122-250cc expert classes. Daugherty also was second in the plus-25 expert class Saturday. Daugherty also won the 122-open expert class Sunday.

Cobleskill's Ryan Daly won the 85cc 12- to 15-year-old class Saturday and Sunday. Daly also won the open mini 10- to 16-year-old class Sunday.

A trio of Pennsylvania-based riders also posted wins Saturday. Joey Yuhaschek of Albion, Pa., won the 122-open novice and 122-250cc novice classes, while Mike Fisher of Edinboro, Pa., won the 122-250cc amateur and collegeboy 14- to 24-year-old classes. Bradley Noble of Poyntelle, Pa., won the quad novice class. Fisher also won the 122-250cc amateur class Sunday.

In the mini quad 51-90cc production class, Amsterdam's Matthew Hirschfeld was second and Amsterdam's Geoffrey Hoyt was third. Johnstown's Brandon Handy was third in the 65cc 10- and 11-year-old class, while Amsterdam's Kaitlyn Phillips was fifth in the women's 85-250cc class.

Fonda's Clayton Blowers was third in the plus-40 expert class, Gloversville's Adam Handy was fourth in the 122-open expert class and Canajoharie's Ricky Lippman was fourth in the 122-open novice class. Adam Handy also was fourth in the 122-250cc expert class.

Johnstown's Jason Morrison was fifth in the plus-30 expert class, Gloversville's Reid Persch was fifth in the 122-250cc beginner class and Johnstown's Phil Manchester was third in the 122-250cc expert class.

In the plus-25 amateur class, Fonda's Jeffrey Fryc was second and Amsterdam's Jesse Richardson was fifth.

Several area riders posted top-five finishes Sunday.

Sprakers' Randy Roennpagel was third in the quad amateur class, while Broadalbin's Andrew Hughes was third in the quad novice class.

Pattersonville's Dakota Black was fifth in the quad schoolboy 12- to 15-year-old class, while Amsterdam's Geoffrey Hoyt was third in the mini quad 51-90cc production class.

Johnstown's Phil Manchester was fifth in the 122-250cc expert class, Johnstown's Brandon Handy was fourth in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class and Fonda's Clayton Blowers was second in the plus-40 expert class.

In the 122-250cc novice class, Caroga Lake's Jack Mulyca was fourth and Canajoharie's Ricky Lippman was fifth. Lippman also was third in the schooboy 12- to 16-year-old class.

Johnstown's Adryan Pelosi was third in the collegeboy 14- to 24-year-old class and fifth in the 122-open amateur class.

Fryc was third in the plus-25 amateur class, while Johnstown's Brandon Handy was second in the 65cc 10- and 11-year-old class,

Royal Mountain will return to action July 11 when it host a Monster Energy Supercross event.
