LITTLE FALLS - The Amsterdam Mohawks scored nine runs over the last two innings Sunday to pull away to a 12-4 victory over the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs at Veterans Memorial Park.
With the game tied at three in the eighth inning, Ed Charlton, who entered the game in the seventh as a defensive replacement hit a two-run doubled, scoring D.J. Hoagboon and Nathan Gomez. Charlton also scored on a double steal.
Hoagboon had four hits for the Mohawks (19-3), with two RBIs and two runs scored. Evan Stephens had three hits, including a three-run home run in the ninth inning. Charlton finished with two hits and two runs scored, and Zak Colby had two hits and two runs scored. Chase Green also had two hits.
Matt Gage struck out seven batters in five innings. Scott Heath earned the win in relief with three scoreless innings.
Luke Nethaway homered for the Diamond Dawgs (9-12).
The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League-leading Mohawks will travel to Albany to face the Dutchmen tonight and return home Tuesday for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Cooperstown Hawkeyes.
