This year, I was again honored to serve on the Dorothy Wemple Literary Scholarship Committee of the American Association of University of Women.
Like high school English teachers across the nation, Dorothy struggled to keep our beloved language varied, rich and flourishing. At a time when so much emphasis is placed on math and science, we must remember that without the means of clear expression, all our precious thoughts, ideas and feelings would remain mute.
Our topic this year was "What can I bring to public office?" The winning essay was submitted by Gloversville High School's Melissa Schneider. I urge you all to remember that name.
