Area riders post wins at Royal

CAROGA LAKE - A field of 156 riders attended the third week of Monster Energy Supercross competition at Royal Mountain Ski Area on?Wednesday.

Amsterdam's Geoffrey Hoyt won the mini quad 51-50cc production class, while Mayfield's Jordan Miller won the mini quad 50cc production class.

Johnstown's Brandon Handy won the 65cc 7- to 11-year-old class, while Broadalbin's Colby Watras won the quad novice class.

Handy also placed second in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class.

Whitesboro's Mitch Dougherty won two classes Wednesday, claiming victory in the 122-250cc expert and 122-open expert classes.

Also winning two classes were Catskill's Daniel Pilatich and Brodie O'Dell of Pownal, Vt.

O'Dell won the mini-80 9- to 11-year-old and junior mini 9- to 11-year-old classes, while Catskill's Daniel Pilatich won mini-80 12- to 15-year-old and open mini 10- to 16-year-old classes.

Other winners included Lake Katrine's Jerry Defelicis (50cc junior stock 4-6), Edmeston's Tyrick Wheeler (50cc senior stock 7-8), Catskill's Daniel Pilatich (mini 80 12-15), Greenville's Jacob Church (122-open novice), Esperance's Matt Dwyer (plus-30 expert), Gansevoort's Jason Viger (plus-30 amateur), Queensbury's Tyler Jarvis (quad schoolboy 12-15 modified), Westmoreland's Preston Young (quad expert) and Herkimer's Dalton Rowan (quad amateur).

Several local riders posted top-five finishes.

In the 50cc senior stock 7- and 8-year-old class, Gloversville's Ronnie Christman was third and Gloversville's Brandon Hoyt was fifth.

Johnstown's Jason Morrison Jr. (mini quad 51-90cc production) was third, while Fonda's Tyler Blowers (mini 80 9-11) and Salisbury Center's Noah Handy (mini 80 12-15) each posted second-place finishes. Blowers also was third in the 65cc 7- to 11-year-old class. Noah Handy also was fifth in the open mini 10- to 16-year-old class.

In the 122-250cc expert class, Gloversville's Adam Handy was third and Johnstown's Phil Manchester was fifth.

Adryan Pelosi was fourth in the 122-open amateur class, Gloversville's Michael Buanno III was fourth in the 122-250cc amateur class and Mayfield's B.J. Smith was fourth in the 122-open expert class.

In the plus-30 expert class, Fonda's Clayton Blowers was second and Johnstown's Jason Morrison was fifth.

Gloversville's E.J. McAuliffe was third in the quad novice class, while Amsterdam's Katharine Hoyt was second in the quad schoolboy 12- to 15-year-old class.

Royal Mountain will be back in action this weekend with Monster Motocross events Saturday and Sunday.

Signup for both days of racing is 7 to 9 a.m. Practice will start at 8:30 a.m. on both days. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. both days.

Both races are AMA-sanctioned events and the third and fourth legs of a six-race series. The series concludes with events July 15 and Aug. 12.

A turnout of more than 400 bikes and quads are expected for the two-day event, according to a news release.
