Capital projects proposed in county

JOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Highways and Facilities Department on Monday submitted $3.7 million worth of proposed capital projects for 2013, including a roof project and paving project for County Highway 112 - which may be the worst road in the county, an official said.

Department Superintendent Mark Yost submitted his proposed list of projects to the Board of Supervisors' Buildings and Grounds-Highway Committee at the County Office Building. The committee accepted them to add to the main projects list to be initially reviewed by the board's Capital Projects Committee on July 12.

Yost submitted only one capital project request from the facilities part of his department -a $70,000 proposal to install a new roof at the county Public Health Department building on Route 29. He proposed the project be done from May to September 2013.

"That [existing] roof is out of warrantee," Yost said. "Its got several leaks."

Yost gave the committee a list of six proposed road projects. The top priority was listed as the $1.8 million paving of County Highway 110 in the towns of Broadalbin and Northampton. The project will receive federal pass-through funding.

"It was last paved in 1996-97,' Yost said.

Second on his road projects for 2013 was the paving of County Highway 112 in the town of Bleecker. Reconstruction work would cost $540,000 and be about 2.7 miles from Route 29A to Persch Road. State aid will pay for the project, to be done from May to August 2013.

"It's probably the worst road in the county," Yost said of County Highway 112.

Other paving projects include: County Highway 107 in the towns of Perth and Broadalbin - $251,000; County Highway 107 and proposed County Highway 117 in the town of Johnstown - $280,000; County Highway 126 in the town of Broadalbin -$389,000; and County Highway 108 in the town of Oppenheim - $126,000.

Other 2013 equipment capital projects were a $245,000 tandem dump truck with plow, and $26,000 tank monitoring-fuel dispensing system.
