GLOVERSVILLE - A 31-year-old man was arrested after officers had to break into his apartment on Fremont Street to free a person who was heard crying behind the door, city police said.

Scott M. Ruback, of 82 Fremont St., Apartment 12, was charged Monday with five misdemeanors, including unlawful imprisonment, attempted assault, menacing, resisting arrest and obstructing police. Ruback also was charged with disorderly conduct, a violation.

Police received two calls about a disturbance at Ruback's address Sunday night. Officers tried to interview the apartment's occupants, but no one would answer the door, police said.

Police were later called back to the same address. The officers identified themselves, but Ruback, who acknowledged their presence, would not open the door, police said. Police then forced open the door.

Ruback was held in custody pending arraignment.
