Lawrence W. Stewart, age 64, of Broadalbin, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville.
He was born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on March 1, 1948, the son of the late Samuel and Genevieve (Frasier) Stewart.
Larry was a 1967 graduate of Perth High School and the National Meat Cutting School in Ohio.
Larry proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was stationed in Cam Ranh Bay with the 135th Heavy Equipment Maintenance Company.
On September 26, 1970, Larry married the former Donna Lee Boyd. They shared 24 years united in marriage until her passing on March 24, 1995.
Larry worked as a meat cutter and then went on to work for General Electric, Insulating Materials Incorporated as well as a self-employed electrician for many years prior to his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., Fish House Fish and Game Club and a former member of the Pine Tree Rife Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Larry also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by a son, Paul Stewart (Debbie) of Waterford, N.Y.; two daughters, Kimberly Stewart of Gloversville, Abby Stewart of Broadalbin; two grandchildren, Samantha Stewart and Gavin Stewart; a brother, James Stewart (Elsie); and a longtime companion, Beverly Birch.
Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Stewart.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
