BROADALBIN - The state Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday charged four underage males with alcohol consumption by a minor at the former Broadalbin Town Beach.
DEC was assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff Thomas Lorey said Friday. State police also assisted.
DEC Officer Nathaniel Mead said Friday that as many as 300 people were using the beach on Wednesday, which promoted a call for assistance Thursday.
"There was a big fight that broke out down there," Mead said. "There were reports of drug use and alcohol consumption. We had to start doing the enforcement of it."
Mead said DEC charged four males, but their names are not being released at this time. He said people should realize they can do some "quick" swimming, kayaking or fishing in the area of the former beach, but otherwise are trespassing.
