Raymond Sagatis, 89, of Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter in Gloversville.
Born in Amsterdam on Sept. 22, 1922, the son of the late Alphonsas and Ruth Schaeffer Sagatis, he lived here his entire life. Ray worked as a sales representative for Mohasco until he retired. He later worked for the New York State Canal System in Fonda. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the India Burma battles and the Asiatic and Pacific Theater of Operations. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. Ray was a parishioner of the former St. Casimir's R.C. Church and more recently St. Stanislaus Church. He was also a member of the American Lithuanian Veterans, John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion and the former American Lithuanian Club.
On November 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Freda Kosinski. She predeceased him on Dec. 26, 2011.

His loving family includes his children, Gwendolyn (John) Moran of Lawrenceville, Ga., Susan (Michael Kwiatkowski) Kaupelis of Gloversville and Brian (Darlene) Sagatis of Gloversville; he was a proud grandpa to Donald B. (Allison) Kaupelis III, Ryan P. Kaupelis, and Amy Lynn Moran; nieces and nephews survive. His brother, Edward Sagatis, predeceased him.
Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7 p.m. by Father O. Robert DeMartinis. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Casimir's Cemetery.
