GLOVERSVILLE - The Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education voted Monday to have the high school host summer school programs for all students in the HFM BOCES district for the second-straight year.
The Greater Amsterdam School District had to back out of hosting summer school this season.
Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services Superintendent Pat Michel explained Amsterdam had to cancel because there were "construction issues, so [it wasn't] safe to have the students there."
In response to this, Gloversville Interim Superintendent Clifford Moses said he would talk to the high school principal, Richard DeMallie, about hosting the summer program again. DeMallie agreed with the idea.
Michel said BOCES appreciated Gloversville's offer.
"It's a huge help," he said. "And Gloversville benefits, because [BOCES pays] rent. They did a great job last year, and we're sure it will be the same this year. [They're] very accommodating and great to work with."
The session will run from July 3 through Aug. 17.
Michel said BOCES tries to rotate schools every year, but this year it didn't work out.
"By rotating it, we also give a chance for the local kids not having to be transported," he said. "It's also a financial positive for whatever school district we have it in."
Teacher matters
The board also agreed on the reinstatement of four teachers: Nicole Kane, Deanne Kowalski, Amy Romeyn and Honora Biche.
The teachers will be eligible to return Sept. 1.
Seven substitute teachers and teaching assistants were also named. Justine Case, Danielle Cranker, Heather Colvin and Phillip Satterlee were all approved for $60 per day, and Katie Davis, Derek Montanye and Maria Pietro were approved for $55 per day.
When substituting for a teachers assistant, the rate will automatically be $55 per day.
